Hanging out at MTV's American Mall
If you liked the "High School Musical" movies and loved the mall scenes of "Fast Times At Ridgement Hight," then you don't want to miss MTV's "The American Mall." Directed by Shawn Ku, "The American Mall" is about a young woman named Ally (Nina Dobrev) who loves to write songs and practice afterhours in a mall where her mother runs a music shop in. Wanting to follow her dreams of music, Ally must decide whether to go pursue her music education at a New England Music school or go to a business college that her mother wants her to attend. Adding to the complexities of her life are the friends and new musician love interest (Rob Mayes) she discovers at the mall while her arch-nemesis, Madison (Autumn Reeser) tries to thwart her dreams.

This past Monday, July 28, 2008, MTV hosted the red carpet premiere of the film at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, CA. All the stars of the film were out on the carpet from Nina Dobrev to Rodney To who plays Ben in the film.

Rodney To
Rodney To mentioned that he loved being in the film as he made all the cast members laugh. In the film, Rodney is considered just one of the girls, or rather in his wishful thinking state, be the boyfriend of Ally.
I joked around with director Shawn Ku saying that he's the next Adam Shankman. He laughingly protested, "Oh no! Not me. Maybe in the future."

Other celebrities who showed up included Ana Maria Perez de Tagle, Jai Rodriguez and Monique Coleman.

Just because I like Dave Gahan - Hourglass Remixes
Well I know this isn't a red carpet event post but just because I like Dave Gahan, I decided to post this press release I just received. I'm sure there's other fans out there.

DAVE GAHAN will follow 2007's HOURGLASS with a vinyl collection of remixes of songs from the critically acclaimed album. HOURGLASS - REMIXES, scheduled for March 11th release via Mute/Virgin Records, features Juan Maclean, Booka Shade, Kap10Kurt, Maps, T. Raumschmiere, Digitalism, Onur Ozer and Sebastien Leger taking on tracks such as hit single "Kingdom," (recently #1 on Billboard's Singles chart and #5 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart), "Deeper & Deeper," "Use You" and "Saw Something" plus "Love Will Leave," a b-side from the HOURGLASS sessions. The collection will mark the first time many of these versions have been released physically in the United States; numerous selections that have been available only as imports until now.
HOURGLASS - REMIXES, which will include a free CD, will be available exclusively through thinkindie.com, which services the best independent music retailers in America with exclusive and rare items that are not available via major chain and big-box stores. The bonus CD includes all eight tracks from the vinyl plus three additional remixes. Visit thinkindie.com for a complete list of outlets.
With his second solo album, the Depeche Mode front man emerged as a gifted songwriter, masterfully capturing man's race against -- and fear of running out of - time. Filter's "Good Music Guide" called the album "astonishingly brilliant…squaring off with everything from nihilism to the tyranny of humans. And all the while aching for something of real value and consequence" while Rolling Stone noted: "Hourglass goes all the way electro…Gahan broods over God and humanity and the bleakness of existence in ballads like 'Kingdom' and 'Saw Something.' But he gets off a fantastic sex-hound growl in 'Use You,' with a gospel vibe recalling Songs of Faith and Devotion."
GAHAN's LIVE FROM SOHO, recorded in October at the Apple Store in New York City, was released on iTunes on December 18th and he recently performed on NPR's "World Café."
The HOURGLASS - REMIXES track listing is as follows:

Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana meld in 3D
If your niece, daughter, sister or anyone for that matter that's into Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus and missed her overpriced concert, then you're in luck with "Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert in 3D featuring the Jonas Brothers."

My niece, Madison, makes her red carpet debut.

Selena Gomez puts a hex on the photographers with her pretty smile.

Madison Pettis is in the house!

Miley Cyrus' tv brother Jason Earles graces us with his comedic presence.

The Jonas Brothers were a bit hard to photograph. Trying to get all three to look at the cameras. They created one of the loudest screams on Hollywood Blvd that night.

Miley Cyrus definitely has her own look on the carpet. She had a lot more eye make-up than usual and darker hair.
Speaking of darker hair. Disney publicist thought it would be cute to have all the photographers wear Hannah Montana wigs. I had to laugh because it looked more like the cast of Spinal Tap meets Hannah Montana.

Ashley Tisdale fixes her hair on the carpet.

Jennifer Tisdale makes her appearance at the premiere on the carpet. A little tidbit about Miss J Tisdale: She used to only want to be known as Jen Kelly and not Tisdale.

Director/choreographer Kenny Ortega demonstrates his moves at the premiere.

"Ugly Beatty" star Vanessa Williams puts a fashion spin on the carpet.
I just had to add this video of Hannah singing the song "Old Blue Jeans." My niece got me into this song when she was playing her Hannah Montana WII game.
Imagine being at the concert without having to pay concert prices and still feel like you're there or even better. While waiting for the press check-in to open, I was speaking to a colleague from TV Guide. She had seen the special press screening the night before and told me and my niece that it was totally awesome. There is one point in the movie where the drummer flicks his drumsticks in the air and when they fall down onto the drums, there's a camera underneath that captures the shot and makes it seem like the sticks are coming at you.
Walking the red carpet were the usual ABC/Disney children talent from Madison Pettis to Ashley Tisdale. Having my niece with me help gain some smiles and attention from the celebrities. Some even had a quizical (sic) look on their faces as they heard my seven-year old niece Madison shout, "Up Here! Second row!" Oh my gosh! An event photographer in the making.
